Half of US Children on Food Stamps Sometime During Their Childhood
The ink of the story talking about Costco taking food stamps has not dried yet, there comes this heart-breaking story about Half of US Kids Receive Food Stamps at some point during their childhood
A family of four is eligible if their annual take-home pay does notexceed about $22,000.
| Many new immigrant families of four with a pay less than $22,000 are not on food stamps since they do not know about this program. What do they do? The family of four will stay in a basement that charges a rent of a few hundred, getting furniture from trash bins or garage sales. They always buy the cheapest store, going to different stores to get food on clearance Why do I know? We did not have a family of four. We had a family of two getting paid $10,000 a year. We lived such a life and saw others with or without children getting by in similar fashion. The first people to protect the children should be the parents, if they could not afford, the government has a duty to protect its child citizens. They are the future of America. |

The news gives me a terrible feeling for the kids although the kids under such situations are not necessarily feeling the pain. When we shared a basement with others, when we drove to the worst neighborhood to get cheap produce, when we starved for a day to get a buffet meal once in a while, we did not feel terrible for us back then. It was after we moved out of the basement that we felt the difference. We went to look for a friend still living in the basement that we lived for years, I found standing on the dirty stairs make me suffocating. It was unbearable, but we did remember that we did not feel anything while we lived there.
It is a good wish: We as a people should protect our children, we hope the children study hard and do not feel the pain until after they get out of the poverty.
Sooner or later, the children will realize the poverty life they once had and that will put a different dent in their psyche.
I was happy when I was in poverty because I did not know how terrible that was. I though more about it after I got out of poverty and realized that I was once in the poverty statistics.
America has a duty to help its own children and children's parents in whatever ways so that they can grow healthily and become productive citizens and help to eliminate poverty in America.
Hopefully we do not have to talk about the next three decades in past tense along with children in poverty.
