Disney Will Build Theme Parks in Shanghai
America has succeeded in creating a huge crack on the Great Chinese Wall of media if such a wall is believed to ever have existed.
Reuters reported that the Chinese government has granted the permission for Disney to build theme parks in Shanghai. If anyone knows, Shanghai is as expensive if not more expensive than New York. The land is very very expensive in a country that the per capita land is so minute. It is a huge success for Disney, for its parent company and all those western-trained Chinese who helped this to go through.

The Reuters report said:"The breakthrough comes just two weeks ahead of a scheduled trip to China by U.S. President Barack Obama, a visit analysts had expected to help spur a decision on the park.". If this is true, it is one of major accomplishments for President Obama. It is a success for one American company. Wall Disney has a parent called ABC, ABC has a parent called GE. GE is big in China. Such a huge success is not common even for a domestic media company. it is a success for the entire American media. Reuters says the best: "The deal has been seen by some as a feel-good bilateral story, highlighting U.S. cultural influence and an investment that does not entail U.S. manufacturing job losses" It is also a success for the United States. Once the western media established a solid footing through a theme park, many of the culture influences can be incorporated in the theme parks. In turn, this park will be a media to influence the Chinese youth and their parents, in turn to influences the future Chinese generations to come. It is a huge gain for the affluent Chinese kids as well. In four to five years, they can visit the theme parks to get close to the characters they are too familiar with. |
